1. Purpose:
To see if we can make a substance that is both a solid and a liquid.

  2. Hypothesis:

  3. Materials:
Corn Starch, Water, Beaker, Stir Stick or Spoon

  4. Procedure:
    1. Pour 100ml of water into beaker.
    2. Slowly stir in 150lm to 200 ml of corn starch, a bit at a time.
    3. It is ready when you can tap the mixture and there is NO splatter.
    4. Do the following tasks with the mixture:
      1. Scoop up some of the mixture.
      2. Can you shape it into a ball?
      3. Dribble it off your fingers.
      4. Slap your hand down fast and hard onto the mixture. How do people react?

  5. The Science Behind "GOOP".
In a liquid, molecules move around a little. In a solid, molecules stay in a fixed position. Some substances have the properties of both a liquid and a solid. Squeezing this mixture turns it into a solid. You have just made a colloid. (In fact, most of the universe isn't a solid, liquid or gas. It is a plasma.)
